Neurology at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center
A neurologist specializes in treating disorders of the nervous system affecting the brain, spinal cord and nerves. This can include issues like muscle disorders, headache, epilepsy, neuropathy, and tumors on the brain or spine.
Neurologists also see patients who have multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke and Alzheimer’s or other memory problems. Any of these conditions can affect the way a person walks, talks, comprehends and functions in daily life.
As a neuro-spine Center of Excellence, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center offers the latest advancements in neurology, neurosurgery, spine surgery, and neurointerventional radiology. Neurologists, neurosurgeons and neurointerventional radiologists work together to determine the best approach to treating each individual patient.
Neurologists also collaborate with other specialties and resources at Fort Sanders Regional. For example, stroke patients and those with brain and spinal cord issues have the benefit of being treated by neurologists who work closely with physiatrists from the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center. At the Fort Sanders Sleep Disorders Center, neurologists work with patients who suffer from a host of sleep/wake disorders including sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome.
These powerful collaborations help provide the most effective treatment possible so patients can experience their best outcomes and quality of life.
