Valentine’s Day: Colleen and Michael Hurst

Posted on February 12, 2021 in Blog

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center!

With Covenant Health’s 11,000 employees, facilities across the organization including Fort Sanders Regional are bound to have a few couples working in the same place. One couple who works together at Fort Sanders Regional is Colleen and Michael Hurst. Learn more about these two below.

Colleen and Michael HurstWhere are you from originally?

Colleen: Evansville, Indiana

Michael: I was a Marine brat, so I grew up all over the place.

How long have you worked at Fort Sanders Regional?

Colleen: 2 years

Michael: 5 months

What do you do at Fort Sanders Regional?

Colleen: I’m the director for cardiac services.

Michael: I’m a materials associate, so I deliver a lot of medical supplies and other things throughout the hospital.

When did you get married?

July 2009. We were married by an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas!

Where did you meet?

We met at church. Colleen sang on the praise team, and Michael helped with mics and sound for the choir.

What is it like working in the same place as your spouse?

Colleen: You have a good idea of what the other person is going through because of being in the same industry and the same place. I might hear something on our morning huddle that lets me know that he might have a bad day or a really great day depending on what’s going on in the hospital.

Michael: We don’t really cross paths much during work because we work in different areas, but it’s really nice to get to have lunch together every day.

Any advice for a newlywed couple?

Always date each other no matter how long you’ve been married. It’s so important to set aside time for each other.
