Medical Laboratory Professionals Week – Mary Stallard

Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 22- 28, 2018, is an annual celebration of medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who work behind the scenes to help diagnose our patients. Their work supports other clinical staff so they can determine the best possible treatment for our patients. You can find them busily working behind the scenes in the lab performing tests on blood, tissue or other fluids. Lab professionals keep up with the latest science and technology so we can provide cutting edge treatment to our patients.

Today, we are spotlighting Mary Stallard, a longtime employee of Fort Sanders Regional whose attention to detail make her a valued asset in the lab. Read about Mary below.

Tell us a little bit about your job at Fort Sanders Regional?

I work hematology in the lab. We process complete blood counts, cell counts for fluids and review slides

What do you love most about your job?

My job is very rewarding because my work helps the doctor determine the right diagnosis. By helping the doctor, I am helping the patient.

What made you want to pursue a career in the lab?

I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. I started out in nursing, but I decided I liked the behind the scenes element of working in the lab.

What is your favorite movie?

Steel Magnolias

If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Spaghetti, I love Italian food!
