Two Fort Sanders Regional registered nurses received special recognition with the hospital’s top nursing awards honoring their excellence in clinical care.

Holly Frederick, RN, was named the 2022 Peggy Mayer Gilbertson Award Recipient. The award provides funds for continuing education and has been given since 1989 in memory of the wife of Bob Gilbertson, MD, a former chief of staff at the hospital. Candidates for the Gilbertson Fellowship are nominated by their fellow nursing peers, and the recipient is chosen by the hospital’s nursing leadership staff.

Additionally, the Fort Sanders Regional medical staff named Steven Masaeh, RN, CVIVU, recipient of the Elizabeth Killeffer Award. Elizabeth Killeffer was the director and shift leader of nursing from 1922 to 1960 at what was then called Fort Sanders Hospital. Since 1992, the Killeffer Award has been given to an outstanding employee who is nominated by peers and chosen by vote of the hospital physicians.
