Fort Sanders Regional Receives Seventh Straight “A” Grade in Spring 2018 Hospital Safety Ratings

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center was recently named one of 750 hospitals to receive an “A” grade in The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Scores, ranking the hospital among the safest in the U.S. for the seventh consecutive rating period.

“To be listed among the nation’s safest hospitals by the Leapfrog Group since the Spring 2015 rating period is no small feat, and one that I am especially proud of,” said Keith Altshuler, chief administrative officer, Fort Sanders Regional. “This achievement is reflective of hard work and dedication by staff across the hospital, and I am pleased to show our community the results of our efforts.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization focused on the quality and safety of American health care. The group’s Hospital Safety Score assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their records of patient safety, to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign letter grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals twice per year. Scores are calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

The Leapfrog Safety Scores are one resource for patients and consumers to find information related to hospital care, and Fort Sanders Regional uses feedback from publicly available reports to help continually review safety standards.

“This designation is one way Fort Sanders Regional shows its commitment to our health system’s pledge of excellence: putting our patients first, excellence in everything we do, and making Covenant Health the first and best choice,” said Altshuler.
