Stephen Ministry is a program of Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center pastoral care department that trains volunteers to provide distinctively Christian one-on-one care to patients and family members in our hospital. What are a Stephen Minister's opportunities? TRAINING: Receives 50 hours of initial training. Is commissioned as a Stephen Minister after completing initial training. PARTICIPATION: Participates in bi-monthly support and supervision meetings. MINISTRY: Visits a patient regularly for one hour a week. Serves for at least one year after the initial training. Who can serve as a Stephen Minister? Stephen Ministry is a volunteer program that is open to anyone who is gifted for caring ministry. Stephen ministry is for committed Christians who feel a special burden for hospital ministry. What do Stephen Ministers do? Stephen Ministers: Listen Explore feelings Pray Share the love of God Maintain confidentiality Be someone who cares and trusts God with the results What kind of people do we care for? Facing illness or surgery Receiving long-term care and/or rehabilitation Experiencing loss as they age Grieving In a crisis Caring for a family member or loved one in the hospital Going through a crisis of child birth/death How do I apply?
