Wound Care Fact Sheet
- The Fort Sanders Wound Care Center is designed to provide relief for chronic wound sufferers. Affiliated with Curative Health Services, the Center offers comprehensive treatment and therapy for patients dealing with slow-healing sores.
- Treatment is provided on an inpatient and outpatient basis.
- Causes of chronic wounds can be poor circulation due to heart disease or diabetes. Blisters that turn into painful sores are often the source of most non-healing wounds.
- Treatment plans may include nutrition and exercise options as well as therapy and the wearing of special shoes. Patients are advised on how to care for their wounds at home in order to speed along the healing process.
- More than six million Americans suffer from chronic wounds. Approximately 300,000 patients nationwide benefit each year from wound care center services.
