Knox County Schools & Childcare Information for New Fort Sanders Physicians Education Knox County operates 84 public schools, including 50 elementary, 14 middle and 12 high schools, as well as 2 vocational schools, 4 special education centers and 2 early childhood centers. Enrollment in 2000-2001 was 52,186 students. Fifty-two private/parochial schools add approximately 6,700 students to this number. www.kcs.k12tn.net Post-secondary education is available at the University of Tennessee's main campus in Knoxville and five private colleges. Pellissippi State Technical Community College and Roane State Community College offer two-year programs for technical and associate degrees along with four other vocational/technical institutions. Enrollment Parents of children entering kindergarten or first grade in the Knox County Public School System will need the following information and documents: A certified copy of the child's birth certificate Immunization records The child's Social Security card Proof of address Students transferring into the Knox County Public School System must bring proof of address as well as a copy of their most recent report card.
