Internal medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of diseases in adults, especially of internal organs.
Internists are trained to solve diagnostic problems and handle severe chronic illnesses or multiple illnesses. They also focus on education patients regarding preventative medicine, men's and women's health, substance abuse, behavioral health, as well as treatment of common problems of the eyes, ears, skin, nervous system and reproductive organs.
