Other high-risk pregnancy complications
We work
closely with the women's services department at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center
to handle emergencies or complications and to help manage the birthing
experience. Our close association with East Tennessee Children's Hospital assures medical
services are available for infants, if needed, with access to a neonatal
intensive care unit, five neonatologists and a comprehensive newborn nursery.
Fees and
insurance
The relationship we have with our patients is very
important, resulting in care for all pregnant women. For that reason, a clear
understanding of the recommended medical treatment and financial responsibility
is essential. We encourage patients to discuss costs with our medical staff. We
participate in many insurance plans, including TennCare and Medicare, and can
assist in filing claims with your insurance company. Be sure to obtain referrals
or prior authorization as required by your insurance plan. Payment is expected
at the time of service unless prior arrangements have been made.
Ultrasound
services
The
Fort Sanders Perinatal Center was the first in East Tennessee to be accredited
by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine for obstetrical ultrasound.
Our office is the most experienced in East Tennessee in chorionic villus
sampling (CVS) and genetic amniocentesis. We perform high-resolution ultrasound
and fetal heart studies for our patients, as well as patients from many
referring obstetricians.
Office
hours
Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Please call at least 24 hours in advance for cancellations or rescheduling.
Medical
emergencies
For emergencies that develop at night or on weekends,
please call our office number at 541-2020. Our 24-hour answering service can
contact our physicians within moments of your call. Going directly to the
emergency department at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center or the closest
hospital is recommended if a patient needs to be seen immediately.
Referrals
The
Perinatal Center operates on a referral basis. Our staff will work with the
primary obstetrician, in a supportive role, to help manage a patient’s care. The
main focus of our staff is to serve as consultants for physicians providing
prenatal care. As consultants, we will provide advice for the prenatal care plan
and also recommend appropriate supportive services. Following a patient’s
consultation, a prompt report regarding all diagnostic results will be forwarded
to the primary obstetrician.
